Choosing a Possum Removal Company

Possum Removal Problems?

You probably have been scouring the internet for ideas on how to get rid of the possum in your roof and nothing is working. You are at your wit’s end and that gnawing scratching noise seems to be stuck in your head.   Well you are not alone, and you are not the only one who wishes they did not have to spend for this service.  But in the long run, how much is peace of mind really worth?
Asking help from professionals does not need to be stressful, you just need to know what to look for in a company so you get the kind of service you are paying for.
·         Experience and Expertise – a company who has been in business of getting rid of possums for a quite sometimes means that they have a good following. Ask them about their work and experiences. Experts do not hesitate to share what they know and are usually open to questions.
·         Environment Friendly Methods – most companies who offer possum removal services also offer other pest control services.  Those who promise environment friendly methods apply the same principle in other services. Possums are protected under the National Parks and Wildlife Act of 1972, so, their safety must be ensured during the removal process and requires NPWS approved tools (traps, possum boxes and one way doors).
·         Proper Licenses and Permits – getting rid of possums in the roof or inside the walls is particularly difficult. The possum removal company should have a permit to trap and release and they should have the proper credentials to operate.
·         100% Guarantee – a company who guarantees their work 100 % means that they are confident that they can get rid of possums and that they stay out.
·         At least 12 Month Warranty – possums have a tendency to seek out the home it got so used to.  Having the option to call back the possum removal company as part of their previous service is a plus.
·         Local Services – local presence is a matter of convenience both for you and the possum removal company.
·         Proactive Service – wouldn’t be better if the people offer services actually listen to your needs from your budget, your available schedules and your preferences?
There are possum removal companies who have all the above criteria, www.sydneypossumremovals.au for instance.  Hiring with fewer credentials might leave you more frustrated and find yourself spending more than you should.

Sydney Suburbs likely to have Possum Invasions

Usual possum encounters and sightings near well populated areas have increased recently.  But these encounters do not necessary need the intervention of possum removal experts.   These marsupials bring about different reactions from different people.  As it happens, not everyone is most enthusiastic about wildlife being so close to home. But one thing is sure though, especially in Sydney, encounters may be unavoidable, some suburbs more than others.

Below is a list of places where ringtail possums and bushtail possums were sighted in Sydney.  The reports were recorded and are made available online. The likelihood of possum encounter or invasion is greater near and around the suburbs along:
·         The Northern Beaches particularly in Bilgola and Avalon
·         Willoughby
·         Eastwood
·         West Pymble, Ryde Road
·         Killara
·         East Killara
·         Mona Vale Road in Terry Hills and Saint Ives
·         Wakehurst Golf Course
·         Bligh Park
·         Oxford Falls
·         North Wahroonga
·         Warriewood
·         Katandra Bushland Sanctuary
The list is meant as a guide and is not a guarantee you won’t be visited by a possum.  Possums are surprisingly adaptable to suburban setting, and once they are settled, they are hard to getrid of.  What attracts them to a certain area is food and then shelter.  If you leave food outside, they might decide to stay and the best shelter conducive to possum living the roof, where it is dark, dry and quiet.  It is a good idea to possum-proof your roof than try to get rid of them later.  As for your gardens, it is better to fence up rather than to wait for a one of them to arrive and start ruining your yard.
The internet is full of positive and negative possum encounters.  There are accounts of frustrated homeowners while some are stories about living in harmony with them.  And there are stories about homeowners trying to get rid of the possum in their roof on their own which usually gets them nowhere and end up more frustrated than before.
A homeowner tried boarding up the possum’s access hole and the possum just ripped it right off and as the homeowner climbed a ladder to try and shoo it off with his torch light, the possum was already in the hole with its tail sticking out.  And grabbing the tail was not even a good idea. He did put a torch light in the next day but the possum just knocked it right off.  This is one battle that will go on until the homeowner decides call the pros to get rid of the possum.
Another’s experience was a more pleasant probably because the homeowner decided to seek the services of possum removal experts.  Now they are living with the possum in their backyard and out of the roof, in its own possum box up in one of the trees nearby.
